Someone's Gotta Give Hostess GIfts in the Hamptons

Kaftans, Body Scrubs and Table Cloths at prices that blow Prime Day Away!

Welcome to another edition of the Ravin RoundUp where content and commerce meet for cocktails!

Ah The Hamptons, a summer playground for New York City’s elite; known for its’ pristine beaches, quaint villages, celebrity sightings and the hours of traffic you sit through on Friday to get there. Well not today, Rounders. All it takes to feel like you spent a weekend on the South Fork is a Nancy Meyers movie and the most amazing hostess gifts that will guarantee if you’re heading somewhere fabulous as a weekend guest you will get asked back next year. Oh, and did I mention I hooked you all up with incredible discounts?

Let’s Round it Up!

The year was 2003.  Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez we’re making “Bennifer Part 1,” the most shocking thing Britney Spears had done was kiss Madonna at the VMA’s, low rise jeans were a thing (simultaneously giving birth to the phrase “muffin top”) and Nancy Meyers directed a romcom that had you dreaming of light filled, neutral palate living rooms with ocean views.

That’s right my Gen Z readers, you were barely the night of Tequila shots and unprotected sex that would lead to your conception and we were all hooked on the Movie “Something’s Gotta Give.”  In this Golden Globe winning role. 57 year-old Diane Keaton in her understatedly chic, white cashmere turtleneck and white jeans is being courted by a philandering, chubby, 66 year-old Jack Nicholson AND earnest, sexy, doctor, Keanu Reeves. Meanwhile a young Amanda Pete is walking by eating an ice cream cone in a bikini and she completely holds her own with these megastars!!! But what I loved the most about this movie was how the signature Nancy Meyers aesthetic in the decor, wardrobe and lighting made you feel like you were really on a beach vaca in the Hamptons. Which is what inspired this editions round up of hostess gift ideas.

If you’re looking for some more recent content set in the Hamptons try:

Royal Pains- This 8 season comedy, starring Paul Feurstein as a concierge doctor in the Hamptons on Netflix might get you through a bout of mild Covid.

The comedy, No Hard Feelings, stars Jennifer Lawrence as a down on her luck Montauk local being paid to deflower a wealthy couple’s nerdy son before he goes off to college. It’s cute but not quite worth home viewing. However, If you ever see it offered on the Delta inflight menu… GO FOR IT!

Or you can always watch the Barefoot Contessa make decadent dinners in her button downs for her beloved Jefferey for 297 episodes. But that feels a little excessive on every level.

Regardless, my pick is definitely still “Something’s Gotta Give” currently priced at $2.99 to rent on Amazon Prime!

Now on to the shopping! YAY!

HOSTESS GIFTS THAT KEEP ON GIVING

I pride myself on being an extremely thoughtful and generous gift giver but if I had to pick my Olympic gifting lane it would be the weekend hostess gift. You may remember a few weeks back I was panicked that Memorial Day had sprung up like a rogue cystic pimple and I gave my ideas for gifts to send AFTER the weekend.

These next gems are for when you have time to put some thought and energy into the process. The perfect weekend hostess gift needs to not only say “thank you for having me at your beautiful home with fresh sheets and delicious food I don’t have to cook,” but also, hopefully, guarantee you an invite back the next year.

I have been on a quest ever since I had children to find a chic, ideally non-toxic (but not a deal breaker), guest worthy, wipeable table cloth. AND I’VE FOUND IT.  Since 2013 Tracy and David from Splash Fabric in Seattle, Washington have been making this eco-friendly wipe and wash fabric that’s soft to the touch in the most gorgeous colors and designs. They come in standard sizes but will also gladly do custom sizing and they have matching cloth napkins!!! Who wouldn’t appreciate this gift?

SPLASH FABRIC 54’x84’ rectangle tablecloth is $92.00 but you can get 15% off with the code “RAVINROUNDUP_15.”

There’s a beautiful shop in East Hampton called Clic that sells bougie house wears with a fun twist, including Mumu Bath products.

But you don’t need to go to East Hampton for these colorful creations, they’re made in Brooklyn by Sasha Chou. Mumu Bath was established in 2020 when Sasha’s baby developed eczema at 6 months old. Faced with the challenge of finding soaps gentle enough for the baby, she decided to create products that captured the clean essence of her Taiwanese heritage. From scrubs to body butter to her best selling Coffee Eye Cream made with Coffee Arabia seed oil that tightens skin and boosts circulation to wake up your eyes. And Sasha was nice enough to give us 15% off until 9/30 with the code “RavinRoundup.

I know what you’re thinking…Cabana towels? Really Marta? How cliche. Well to you my fickle friend I ask the following. Is a towel that dries 3x faster than regular cotton towels, cliche? Is a towel that folds up into a cute bag, cliche? Is a sustainable towel crafted from 20 recycled plastic bottles, cliche? I think not my imaginary doubter. And these particular Dock & Bay towels are sold at one of my favorite gift, baby, home everything shops on the East Coast. Michele Bessey’s PERCH HOME in Maplewood, NJ. Michele and I met years ago in television production and when she opened up the first Perch Home all I wanted to do was BUY EVERYTHING!

PERCH HOME recently took over a new space that is serving up more than just amazing gifts. Michele explained:

“We had lost our lease after 17 years. I was blindsided. The only space in town was a dilapidated restaurant. It was a huge risk, but I wanted to integrate all the things that Perch Home represented. All the moments people celebrate and not just with gifts. So now we serve gelato, brunch, coffee and we even rent out the space for parties!”

Michele Bessey

Congrats Michele. I can’t wait to come by and check out the new space!

DOCK & BAY TOWELS in Boracay Yellow, Whitsunday Blue, Tulum Blue, and Malibu Pink are normally $34 for size large and $38 for XL. But Michele was generous enough to give us 20% off of everything in the shop; just use the code RAVINROUNDUP20.

So far this edition has all been about what to bring for your hosts but that doesn’t mean you don’t need a new kaftan. OF COURSE YOU DO!! WE ALL DO!!! Now usually in the RoundUp I try and feature small, female owned businesses because they’re my PEEPS!!! But I just HAD to share this amazing beach cover up I found on Amazon.

At first blush It may look like a dress from high end beach ware brand PItusa, but this dress ONLY COSTS $29.99. and I got one. So I can honestly say, the fabric is super soft and it falls perfectly. It’s loose, but you don’t look pregnant. And it comes in 5 colors, including this stunning blue which looks fantastic over a bathing suit or a long tank top. Warning! The sleeve holes are super deep so you definitely need to wear something under it.

And of course after a day of shopping in the Hamptons what’s better than a glass of Rose? A glass of Rose from the most gorgeous bottle ever!!! Summer in a Bottle Rose from Wolffer Estate, located in Sagaponack, NY makes a great gift. It’s the perfect Rose in the most gorgeous bottle that makes Whispering Angel taste like tap water (not really).
