Enlightened Viewing

Unfortunately, I’ve been going through some serious rich-people-limited-scripted- series withdrawal. Succession is over, Feud was great but depressing and White Lotus Season 3 is not coming out until 2025 TBD!!

So after making it through 6 seasons of British detective show, Line of Duty, I took a deep dive down the streaming rabbit hole and found a little gem from 2011 on Amazon Prime, Enlightened. It's an interesting slice of life created and staring White Lotus' Mike White and Laura Dern following Laura’s relatable and flawed character Amy, who’s living at home with her mother, trying to get her life and career back together after a rehab stint. Although it doesn’t have all the fabulous settings and glamour of White Lotus it does have Mike White’s signature wit and richly drawn characters, with only a slightly unrealistic plot.

And it’s also from 2011 so you know what else it has? BLACKBERRYS. It reminds me of a simpler time. The Obamas were in the White House, Megan Markle was on Suits, Tik Tok didn't exist, and you know what “DM” stood for? SMOKIN’ HOT Dermot Mulrooney!! Remember that guy? He’s in the cast along with Luke Wilson post Family Stone, and Charles Esten pre Nashville. And of course the star, Laura Dern, who could act with just her right eye and her performance would win a Golden Globe! And she did! In 2012 Laura Dern won the Golden Globe for Best Actress TV Series Comedy or Musical for Enlightened.

It's only 2 seasons but it’s fantastic and you can check it out on Amazon Prime.

Finding Hawthorne’s Side Piece

Of course any good vacation requires an incredible book to get lost in especially when you want to ignore everyone. And if you loved "The Magnificent Lives of Marjorie Post" you’re going to freak over Allison Pataki’s new historical fiction novel "Finding Margaret Fuller," based on the incredible life on one of the leading ladies of the women's movement, writer, muse, countess and wait for it...Nathaniel Hawthorne's inspiration for Hester Prynne in the "Scarlett Letter" aka Nathaniel's side-piece!!! I have a motto "Sun's Out, Pool Weights Out." If you find me in any body of water bigger than a bath tub chances are I'm doing reps with my pool weights.
